Lack of Time

Due to lack of time, energy and personal events, my book has been put on hold.

I’m possibly considering scrapping the text all together and using the outline for NanoWrimo 2013. If all goes well, I will use outlines in the future and have at least the trilogy completed by the end of 2014. That’s only if I focus on just writing first drafts. If I start editing, then it may not be until 2015/2016 that it may become completed. Wow this is strange in talking in years time instead of weeks/months.

I think in the future, I may even include dialogue from my characters to build them up with personality.

There is more personality in a plank of wood than in Ken.

– Miranda
As you can see Miranda is a cow. And seems like she and Ken have had another argument.

Okay, so there is my weekly update, hopefully sometime in the future I will say “Yay I have finished a book,” the likelihood is very unlikely though.

Brendan, signing out.

New Idea!

Yesterday, on the way to work I was thinking about my novel, The Last Simicaí, when a new idea came to me. It would change the book a bit, but it would enable me to release at least another two books in the same timeline, which was exciting. The first book is quite impersonal and the battles fought will be mostly external. But the second and third book will be focusing on the characters’ relationships with each other. The fact that it tackles relationships is both an exciting and scary prospect.

Progress (Or lack of…)

The first novel is slowly shaping up, I have a rough idea for the next twenty chapters. But for the actual ending I have no idea. The main character will have to be developed more in the second draft and so will all the conversations and possibly any fights. Also one particular location is getting an overhaul. The ranger camp currently has two large tents surrounded by a archery range to the south and woods all the way around. The problem with this is that moving two large tents around (Large as in the size of a town hall) would be very difficult. Instead I’m just going to have various tents and the tavern will be as mobile as possible which will add a bit more realism.

The Biggest Change

So here we are, finally the change I have made which will affect the novel greatly and all sequels is the main character’s species. Originally he was going to be half man, half monkey. But after getting so far in the book, it became irrelevant so I will be removing it from the novel completely. The main character will be an average human, albeit having to do many battles and being extremely lucky. Since the species has been removed, the actual world will be named Simicaí. At some point I will draw a map of the land. I’m hoping to have the first book’s first draft completed by November. As in November I will participate in Nanowrimo with the second book in the series. Hopefully for once I will complete my target goal, so far this year I have been catastrophically behind.

Well see you all in the next post.
